The objective of this project is to investigate under what circumstances and how a dedicated operating room for urgent and emergent surgical cases might contribute to improved efficiency, effectiveness, satisfaction, and patient safety at the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH). This Realist Review will constitute the basis for development of strategies aimed at optimizing balanced access to pediatric surgical services for both urgent and elective surgical patients.
